Ideas for Teaching Yoga

TEACHING YOGA

You be you boo!  Here are some ideas but take only those that seem to be authentic to your soul.  There is the need for many types of teachers.

  • Bring yourself.  Think about your niche.  Don’t be like others, be you!  Know what you love and offer it to others.  What teachers do I admire and why? What unique qualities do I bring?  Who will benefit from my teaching?  People come to your class because of you.  Success comes from standing in your truth.

  • Know students’ names and their lives.

  • Appreciate students’ efforts.  Don’t make comments (+ or -) about body types.

  • The goal of yoga is simply to quiet the mind, in doing that our true nature is revealed.

  • Smile!  Be genuine.  Listen to many speak to few. Empathy is dropping thoughts 100% and listening. Sympathy is being able to understand. Listen and retain. Ask follow ups. Showing that one are in it too is the key to their success.

  • Observe a class and give it what they need, not what one wants to give it.

  • See in your students the potential that they cannot yet see.

  • Animals can sense fear. Yoga students have a similar skill. They can sense a phony a mile away. If you are not authentic, they will sense it.

  • It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We are all meant to shine, as children do. As we let our own light shine, we are unconsciously giving other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

  • “I do not accept one’s gift of anger, but if one allows me, I will teach one to meditate so that one can no longer be angry.” The Buddha

  • Strain is trying too hard. One’s ego is in with too much ambition creating imbalance. Where can I struggle less and let go more?
